Jason Wolfe started playing the acoustic guitar in 1997. What started out as a hobby soon turned into an obsession and eventually developed into a lifestyle.
He started playing in high school and spent his formative years expanding into college and summer jobs in US National Parks. With little distraction, he honed his skills in dormitory stairwells, on the shores of Lake Yellowstone and on both sides of the Grand Canyon.
Inspiration was drawn from life experiences, surroundings and friends he made from all over the United States and from all over the world.
Jason had his first experience playing for an audience other than friends when he borrowed an ID to get into an open mic night outside of Yellowstone National Park. The crowd was receptive and he had a lot of fun so he did it a few more times and didn’t think much of it.
In the summer of 2005, Jason was asked to perform for a National Park Service Fourth of July event after a Park Ranger happened to hear him playing along the rim of the Grand Canyon. Not knowing what he was signing up for, he agreed. He had played in public before, but for crowds of around 20 to 25 people. The day of the event arrived and it was something unlike he had ever done. The audience measured in the hundreds.
It was intimidating, but he went through with it. At the start, he thought it would be fifteen minutes of torture. Except, about five minutes in, something happened. The nearby restaurant emptied. The post office cleared out. The general store came outside. Everyone came outside: diners, waiters, cooks, shoppers, clerks, postmen and families that wanted to see what they had been hearing. It was an encouraging experience, but Jason did not consider playing much publicly for another few years.
Jason continued to play obsessively simply for his own enjoyment. Over the next few years, he concentrated on learning music theory, developing his own unique brand of style and writing songs. In the summer of 2007, he moved into an apartment in Indiana, PA for his senior year of college. His neighbors were in a working band and their example was Jason’s main inspiration for playing music professionally. He booked his first few paying gigs at the legendary Brown Hotel in the winter and spring of 2008.
Since then, he’s had over 300 live appearances. Jason has enjoyed playing at festivals, bars, fundraisers, large private parties, and town fairs. His catalog of original and cover songs is well over 500, so he is able to customize the set list given the nature of the venue / event.
Jason does more than sing and play the acoustic guitar. He was the songwriter of Jr Wolf’s full length debut album and produced the effort as well. Currently, he enjoys playing shows as frontman with Jr Wolf and guitarist in worship group Rutherford as well as performing solo acoustic sets around Central Pennsylvania. He is also busy writing new material for Jr Wolf’s upcoming album Fall 2018.
Over 20 years experience is sure to bring you the best live solo acoustic event, whether it’s a wedding ceremony, morning rush at the coffee shop, evening at the winery, your corporate event or private party.
